If you have an account with username "somebody at gmail.com", then when you
login to the SMTP server to send that message you should login with that
username instead of using pierre.frenkiel at gmail.com. Google rewrites your
From header to match the address that you use to login to the SMTP server,
which is pierre.frenkiel at gmail.com. This is a Google thing. Some other
services refuse to send your email under the same situation (From header
does not match user login).

My thinking is that your issues would be solved if you create a role for
each username and use the correct role for sending email.
