..................Sat: JBH Whitetail Deer Refuge---Cathalmet, Wash.
COMMON MERGANSERS; RING-NECKS; GREATER SCAUP ....along with other more
"mundane" ducks. 2 GREATER YELLOWLEGS ; 1 KILLDEER around the ponds
area---south end next to Columbia River; several hundred CANADA GEESE
(....along the north end of these same wetlands). No KITES seen this
time around, though there were Hawks ( 1 possible MERLIN --smaller hawk
only seen flying overhead) and several TURKEY VULTURES.....and 1 BELTED
KINGFISHER..
..................Along US 101 east side of Willapa Bay near refuge
headquarters area ----15 CANVASBACKS, AND....12 WHITE-FRONTED GEESE,
along with many other ass't ducks in the shallow water areas (very low tide)
..................Sun:Willapa Bay---Leadbetter point---very low tide.
Lots and lots of ducks--mainly PiINTAILS and MALLARDS. not much
shorebird activity---just a small flock of DUNLIN.
...................Ocean beach--Long Beach Pen.--at Oysterville Rd. beach
entrance. Zillions of DUNLIN and SANDERLINGS ---some changing into their
breeding plumage. Just off shore 30 ft or so were thousands (...or so it
seemed) of SURF SCOTERS (M &F) ----up and sown the shore as far as you
could see. Many LESSER SCAUP closer in along with a 2 RING-NECK DUCKS(
..not normally a 'salt-water duck'???).100's of Seagulls everywhere---the
biggest collection (in terms of sheer numbers) of shorebirds and sea
ducks in one area at one time I have ever seen. The "eatin' " at the low
tide must have been scrumptious!!!!!

..................Cheers!!!!
