Hi all -
A quick note on preliminary results of the Victoria (BC) Christmas Bird
Count, held Dec. 18th.

The tally at the post count gathering was tentatively 154 species, a
new Canadian record, with a few results yet to come in. The former high
was 152, held jointly by Victoria and Ladner, whose 2004 count falls on
Dec. 27, so watch for that. There is at least one additional species in
Count Week, pushing that total to 155. Gorgeous weather helped a lot,
and made it a lot more fun. Boat crews were able to get out offshore
and onto the nearby islands, but seabird numbers were inexplicably down
for some reason.

There were no major vagrants reported. Highlights probably a Say's
Phoebe, a Western Tanager, four species of warblers I think, and a
couple of Horned Larks. Anna's Hummingbird numbers have exploded.
