Hello Tweets,

The Redwing was not seen today at Olympia, despite very good coverage between 7:30am-4:30pm by up to 30+ birders from as far away as Iowa and California. The weather remained wet and rainy during the entire day with drier periods, when feeding activity was probably the best within several Am.Robin flocks. Many birders walked and drove the side streets from Cushing Street to Rogers Street and north of Harrison Ave.,as well. The greatest and most consistent bird diversity was probably along Decatur Street between 4th and 5th Avenues, where most of the coverage was made after 11am or so. We do not feel the dismal weather made an impact on the Redwing since there were plenty of feeding activity of birds throughout the day and perhaps conditions will be better tomorrow and birders will post their sightings. Am.Robin numbers varied greatly from small flocks to flocks of 80+ or more along with fairly large scattered flocks of Starlings too. A small group of 4 Townsend's Warblers was a nice highlight of the day noted in an alley way along Thomas Street(immediately east of Decatur Street) by several birders .A single immature Sharp-shinned Hawk and a Merlin were present during our visit, which at times kept the Am.Robin flocks wary and dispersed. We just wanted to post our observations,as requested by others in the field today too and not to discourage any birders still desiring to look for the Redwing. We felt overall we covered the area very well and if the Redwing was around someone would have seen it,or perhaps it was in another neighborhood and may return back again to 4th Avenue area. The best of luck tomorrow for those looking for the Redwing!

Good birding,
