Today a very intrepid gull class (the 2nd half) headed out to Hood Canal,
Kennedy Creek and Perry Creek. We had basically the same species I noted in
yesterday’s post. We again had the ROCK SANDPIPER with about 20 Dunlin at
Potlatch State Park, a possible Mason County first. Again we missed Snowy
Owl, making me wonder if these birds have moved on, or perhaps up into the
estuary and onto tribal land. A word of caution to anyone heading to or
through Thurston County; the roads were very icy this AM despite temps
reported as above freezing on the (NOAA weather) website for locations that
I checked (several ). We waited out the icy roadways at Perry Creek. Once
again, by far the better conditions were along Hood Canal. I-5 at Nisqually
was said to be very treacherous early, with freeway driving speeds of 15
mph. If you go out in this area, use caution, the forcasts of late have
been quite iffy.

Good luck and be careful.
