Yesterday, on the Mox Chehalis Road (approx 4 miles up from Highway 12) there was a turkey vulture feeding on a dead deer lying in the ditch by one of the curves in the road. What makes this so special is that for a number of years the owner of this particular piece of land had kept birds of prey at bay by shooting them. They disturbed his pigeons and sense of peace. This gentleman and the many horses that he saved and I suppose his pigeons also are viewing these happenings from the great pasture in the sky. It seems a natural balance is being restored there, as several months ago a mountain lion took one of the grazing calves. It is nice to see the big birds winging through there again.
