Sunday April 30, 2006:
The Sunday Bird Walk went to Buttertubs Marsh in Nanaimo. Twenty-one
birders found forty-nine species. Among the highlights were: TREE and
VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS, ORANGE-CROWNED and YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS, VIRGINIA
RAIL, CEDAR WAXWINGS, RED-TAILED HAWKS and OSPREY.

Saturday April 29:
Four EVENING GROSBEAKS were seen coming to feeders in south Ladysmith.

Friday April 28:
A PILEATED WOODPECKER was drumming on a birdhouse along Petrus Street in
Lantzville.
Fourteen HORNED GREBES in breeding plummage were seen off shore at Brickyard
Bay in Nanoose Bay.
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS, ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS, COMMON YELLOWTHROATS, MARSH
WRENS, AMERICAN GOLDFINCH, RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS and RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD were
seen at Legacy Marsh in upper Lantzville.

Thursday April 27:
A flock of 150 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE were seen heading north over
Departure Bay in Nanaimo.
A MERLIN was seen chasing NORTHWESTERN CROWS in the 1200 block of Roseanne
Drive in Nanaimo.
A TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE was seen in the 2500 block of Glenyr Drive in
Nanaimo.
PURPLE FINCH, NORTHERN FLICKERS, PINE SISKINS, AMERICAN GOLDFINCH, a MERLIN
and WHITE-CROWNED and GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS are visiting feeders along
Foxtail Avenue in Parksville.
Twenty GOLDEN-CROWN SPARROWS and a DOWNY WOODPECKER are visiting feeders in
the Chartwell area of Qualicum Beach.

Wednesday April 26:
EVENING GROSBEAKS were seen in South Wellington.
PURPLE MARTINS were seen along Erminskin Avenue in Parksville.
A large flock of AMERICAN GOLDFINCH were seen in Sharman Park in Nanaimo.

Tuesday April 25:
A family of CALIFORNIA QUAIL were seen at feeders in the 2300 block of South
Road on Gabriola Island.
TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE and an ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER were seen on the Shelly
Road side of the Englishman River Estuary in Parksville.

Monday April 24:
Four AMERICAN GOLDFINCH were spotted in Lantzville.
