Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday August 16. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at
On August 10 a PLUMBEOUS VIREO was reported from the south slope of Marys
Peak in the Coast Range.
A REEVE is now being seen at the Tualatin NWR and another is at Fern Ridge
Reservoir. BREWER¹S SPARROWS were reported during the week from Cascade
Head, the North Spit of Coos Bay, Fernhill Wetlands, and Mollala State Park
Eight PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVERS were seen August 14 on the North Spit of Coos
Bay. On August 11 a WILLET was at Yaquina Bay. A SHORT-TAILED SHEARWATER was
seen August 13 off Pacific City.
A BLACK-CHINNED HUMMINGBIRD was at Ridgefield NWR August 10. Over 500
LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS were at Vanport Wetlands August 11. That day two
LONG-BILLED CURLEWS were at Tualatin NWR. In addition to the REEVE at Fern
Ridge Reservoir, a STILT SANDPIPER, WHIMBREL, PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER, and a
WHITE-FACED IBIS were seen there during the week.
On August 14 two BLACK SWIFTS were seen again at Tumalo Falls west Bend. On
August 15, 10-12 BLACK SWIFTS were at Falls Creek Falls in Wallowa County.
On August 11 a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was near Sunriver. Over 76 SWAINSON¹S
HAWKS were at Lower Klamath NWR August 14.
