Sorry for the late report, but here goes.

20 of us walked Nisqually under overcast skies in relatively moderate
temperatures. I expected to see lots of birding activity due to the mild weather
but was disappointed. It was fairly quiet.

Our highlights included the EARED GREBE that continues in the pond on the
left as you head out to McAllister Creek and a cooperative AMERICAN BITTERN near
the freshwater wetland overlook along the boardwalk heading toward the twin

The ponds on the refuge are filling up and more and more waterfowl are
showing up. Nothing unusual, just more of then right now. Raptors are also
increasing with lots of NORTHERN HARRIERS and RED-TAILED HAWKS on the refuge,
including a dark morph RED-TAIL out beyond the twin barns.

All told we had 44 species for the day with nothing hew for the year.
Mammals seen included EASTERN GRAY SQUIREL and MINK.

Until next week...
