First I need to acknowledge Carol Riddell's earlier posting of the
Golden-crowned Sparrow with the white throat. I hadn't noticed it earlier.
Then I need to say that what appeared to me to be a Marbled Murrelet is a
juvenile Pigeon Guillemot. I don't have the experience to see that on my own
and thank Dennis Paulson for letting me know. I will quote his remarks for
the benefit of all: "It's actually a juvenile Pigeon Guillemot,
........................ They're infinitely variable, often have about that
much white in the wing. Marbled Murrelet in black and white winter or
juvenile plumage would show a distinct half-collar, have a smaller bill, a
flatter head, and white scapulars."
