Dear Tweeters,

On 11-17-07, there were five species of grebes visible
at one place! The Samish Island Public Beach (aka the
little DNR park on Samish Island, Skagit County) was
fairly quiet, but there were a few small flocks of
Westerns, a few Horned, quite a few Red-necked, a
single Pied-billed, and, best of all, two or three
Eared Grebes (rather hard to find in Skagit County).

On 11-18-07, I found three Eurasian Collared Doves in
Sedro-Woolley (Skagit Cty). This is a new spot for the
species. After talking to some local birders today, I
learned that the Calhoun Road flock of Collared Doves
has been there for about three years, although word
just got out about this flock a month or so ago. The
spot where I saw the three birds today is quite
distant from Calhoun Road, so maybe these are a
distinct group. They were on F & S Grade Road, just
west of SR 20. This is just west of a church (?) that
always has a lot of junky cars parked in front of it,
just north of Bingham Park. The doves were on a wire,
perhaps 100 to 200 meters west of SR 20 (which takes a
big S-curve here), near a big, boldly striped set of
reflectors blocking what was presumably once a road or
railroad grade.

Yours truly,

Gary Bletsch
