I'm finally at home for a while after being gone for most of the year and
can concentrate on yard birding again. I have been anticipating the
beginning of the stream of nocturnal migrants and last night seemed to be
the first push over my house in Battle Ground, Clark County. I soon found
out that I'm a bit rusty in identifying these things though. By my best

Swainson's Thrush - 6
Yellow Warbler - 2
Savannah Sparrow - 2
Chipping Sparrow - 1
sparrow sp - 4
warbler/vireo or something like that - 12

This morning from the yard, I had the following:

Band-tailed Pigeon - 4 (second sighting this year)
Red-breasted Sapsucker - 1 (only the third sighting ever for the yard)
White-breasted Nuthatch - 2 (only the third sighting ever for the yard)
Western Tanager - 4
Black-headed Grosbeak - 3 (holdouts from a local successful breeding pair)
Western Wood Pewee - 1 (probably one of the local breeders)
Willow Flycatcher - 1 (probably one of the local breeders - a family group
of 3 was active around the back deck the day before)
Yellow Warbler - 2
Common Yellowthroat - 1
Cedar Waxwing - 50
Purple Finch - 10 (the first of the fall was one on Friday)
Pine Siskin - 8 (the first of the fall was one on Friday)
Rufous Hummingbird - 1
Chipping Sparrow - 1
Belted Kingfisher - 1
Vaux's Swift - 2

Good birding to you........
