It seems the turkey vulture migration is a bit
drawn out this season; late migrants and even a
probable courtship dance in British Columbia. But
it won’t be too long before there are young on
the wing so keep an eye out for vultures with dark, non-red heads.
Following is the June 2008 report for British Columbia and Washington.

04 – two groups of 3 over Graysmarsh in Sequim; 1
near the Dungeness River; 1 at a suet feeder at South Cle Elum ridge
05 – 5 near the Old Olympic Hwy
06 – 5 along the Dungeness River; 1 over
Kitchen-Dick Road, Sequim; 5 over eastern Port Angeles
07 – ? turkey vultures over Easton, South Cle
Elum, Frenchman Coulee, Timentwa Flats, Northrup
Canyon and Sprague Lake (no numbers given); 1
over Graham; 2 circling Graham; 10 west of Montesano
08 – 3 near the Dungeness River
10 – 1 over Sequim; between Hood River and
Yachats, Oregon (from car) over 200; 3 feeding on
a deer carcass on Blewett Pass; 1 soaring over Washington Park, Anacortes
11 – 1 over downtown Vancouver, B.C.
12 – ? in Roy
13 – 3 at Nisqually NWR
15 – ? at Longview; 12+ on a dead sea lion at
Ocean Shores; 1 east of Ocean Shores; 1 west of the Humptulips River Bridge
16 – 1 at Bayview Cemetery; ? at Sharpe Park; 1
at Thornton Creek, Seattle; 8 over Edmonds; 6
over the Dungeness River; 2 sw of Amanda Park; 1
east of lower Queets Valley turnoff
17 – 1 flying north along the cliffs at Wanapum
SP; 5 over Point No Point; 2 at the Elwah River;
4 at Hwy 101 PA/PT junction; 1 over the Skokomish
River; 1 over Shelton; 2 circling east of Sequim;
10 circling above Hwy 112 near Salt Creek; 2 over
I-5 (exits 40, 47); 1 along the South Cle Elum
River; 1 west of Cle Elum; 1 over White Center
19 – ? at Icicle Canyon
20 – 1 west of Hoquiam; 1 over Hoquiam H.S.
22 – 1 graceful and gliding near the Green River Community College
23 – 1 circled around Weissenfel’s Road, Asotin County
24 – 10 over the Lower Yakima Valley; 1 south of
Ritzville; 2 circling near Littlerock; 1 over
Packwood; 1 very low over the Ginko Interpretive Center
25 – 8-9 harassing crows in Lynnwood; 1 at Nestle Farm; 1 near Duvall;
2 over Stillwater; 2 near Crescent Lake; 10
floating on the wind currents of the Cowlitz
River and headed up Mt. Rainier; 1 soaring with a
golden eagle over Wenas Campground.
26 – 2 circling over Littlerock; 1 west of Ellensburg
27 – 6 over Seattle; 1 over Humptulips River bridge
28 – 2 near Cle Elum
29 – 4 seen during 1200 miles between Williams
Lake and Bella Coola, B.C.; ? at River S Unit,
Ridgefield NWR; 5-6 adults dancing on the shore of Shuswap Lake, Sicamous, B.C.
30 – 2 over Nisqually NWR; 1 over dunes at Ocean Shores
31 – 1 over Hooper
