Today was one of those days when I was delighted to be living on
top of a hill in the Columbia Gorge. (Don't ask me how it is in the
winter when it is 10 degrees with a 50 mph wind.) My wife and I spent a
couple of hours sitting on the deck this morning watching the migrants
come through the woods before I had to leave for an appointment. When I
came back there were still birds moving through the property so I plopped
back down on the deck in my swivel chair to watch the procession. We
ended up with a list of 45 species seen including 5 species of
flycatchers, OLIVE-SIDED, WESTERN WOOD-PEWEE, HAMMOND'S, DUSKY and
PACIFIC-SLOPE. There was 1 RED-EYED VIREO, many WARBLING VIREOS and 2
CASSIN'S VIREOS. Warblers seen were ORANGE-CROWNED, YELLOW,
BLACK-THROATED GRAY, TOWNSEND'S, HERMIT, MACGILLIVRAY'S and WILSON'S.
