Tweets,

It must have been the cool weather or something that brought out 22 of us
to walk Nisqually yesterday. It was nice to be out when it was not as hot
as it has been for the last few weeks. Overcast and temps in the 50s and
60s felt good for a change.

We had a pretty good list of birds and many that we saw were feeding young,
even some warblers feeding cowbird chicks. Highlights included an
AMERICAN BITTERN in the pond between the visitor center and the twin barns and
several WARBLING VIREO.

The swallow numbers are down but we still saw BARN, CLIFF, TREE, and
VIOLET-GREEN. And we saw YELLOW, ORANGE-CROWNED and WILSON'S WARBLERS as well
as COMMON YELLOWTHROAT. Yesterday was the first day since early March that
we didn't see and RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRDS.

We saw both CANADA and CACKLING GEESE for the first time in awhile and had
both MALLARDS and WOOD DUCKS with chicks. Water is now limited to the
pond behind the visitor center so shorebirds were non-existent. We did
manage to see a CASPIAN TERN and a GLOUCOUS-WINGED GULL from afar but that was
it.

All told we saw 41 species with no mammals seen.

Until next week....
