Hi Tweeters,

Today Dave & Sherry Hayden, Jim Pruske, and myself birded several areas in western Yakima County.  We saw just over 70 species on the day, including the following:

Hause Creek campground: YELLOW WARBLER, WESTERN WOOD-PEWEE (common in several locations), DUSKY FLYCATCHER, BROWN-HEADED COWBIRD, WARBLING VIREO.

Cowiche Canyon: YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT, BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK, BULLOCK'S ORIOLE, 5 species of swallows (no tree swallows), AMERICAN KESTREL, ROCK WREN, CANYON WREN, WILSON'S WARBLER, LAZULI BUNTING, TURKEY VULTURE, CEDAR WAXWING, VAUX'S SWIFTS (very common at several locations), CALIFORNIA QUAIL, WESTERN KINGBIRD, plus 2 rattle snakes and 1 gopher snake.

Oak Creek Rd.:  Several LEWIS'S WOODPECKERS, NORTHERN FLICKER, WESTERN BLUEBIRD, WESTERN MEADOWLARK, WESTERN TANAGER, GRAY FLYCATCHER (well, it looked and sound like one, but it didn't bob its tail), CHIPPING SPARROW (very common today), and lots of LAZULI BUNTING.

Bethel Ridge Rd: (Thanks to Andy Stepniewski for directions): CASSIN'S VIREO, CASSIN'S FINCH, RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH, WILLIAMSON'S SAPSUCKER, MOUNTAIN CHICKADEE, WILLOW FLYCATCHER.  Also pika.

Day Use Area on West Side of Clear Lake (Tieton Rd.): RED CROSSBILL, PINE SISKIN, another WILLIAMSON'S SAPSUCKER, and GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETS.

Miscellaneous:  RUFOUS HIMMINGBIRD, SWAINSON'S THRUSH, PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHER, OSPREY, and RED-TAILED HAWK.

Good birding,
