Matt Dufort and I birded from the Old Vantage Highway north to Banks
Lake yesterday, enjoying some of the early migrants. Here are some of
the highlights:

Old Vantage Highway - 1 Bald & 1 Golden Eagle, 1 Great Horned Owl, 1
Loggerhead Shrike, 1 Canyon Wren, 15 Mountain & 1 Western Bluebird, 2
Sage Thrashers, 1 Vesper Sparrow, 18+ Sage Sparrows

S of Ephrata there were about 70 swans flying east

Lake Lenore - 4 Eurasian Wigeon, 1 American X Eurasian Wigeon hybrid

Alkali Lake - 4 Trumpeter Swans

Banks Lake - 64 Tundra Swans at the south end, 5 Red-breasted
Mergansers and 2 American Tree Sparrows at the turnoff to Steamboat

Northrup Canyon - 1 probable Band-tailed Pigeon heard calling. Our
first thought was that it was a Band-tailed, but due to the location
had a hard time believing it. Unfortunately it stopped calling and we
were unable to see the bird to confirm the ID. It may be worth
looking for if anyone is in the area.

Good birding,
