[Tweeters] South Thurston County, Eurasian Collard Doves, etc.

Greetings All,

Thursday afternoon/evening I spent some time wondering around south Thurston County, mostly near the town of Littlerock. Most notable were 3 Eurasian Collared Doves at Glacial Heritage Prairie. From the gate into the preserve they were in the group of trees (a few conifers and couple of snags) along the fenceline to the NW (left when facing the gate).

Also in the exotic category; in a field just north of Littlerock (at the old dairy) along the Black River there there was a group of Cackling and Canada Geese that contained a rather dirty looking white goose. When I checked it out it turns out it was an adult BAR HEADED GOOSE (BHGo?). None of these birds were here the previous week. Presumably an escapee, I have not seen the BHGo here before, but I don't spend that much time in this area. I assume it is just a wanderer, hanging out with the boys (and girls).

And to round out the recent Thurston sightings, I have been told there is a Tundra Swan or two hanging out a Capitol Lake. It (they?) is an immature bird.

Cheers and good birding...
