This is not the first time that I have heard of Hummers and other birds getting entangled in sticky stuff. I have heard of birds getting entangled/stuck to hanging flypaper strips and hanging flypaper tubes.

While purchasing some flash photography equipment online, I mentioned to the retailer that I was preparing for a trip to Costa Rica to photograph (among other things) hummingbirds. He referred me to an online photo gallery of his (apparently successful) efforts to rescue a hummingbird whose flying ability had been compromised by some sticky goop on its wing and leg.
