Hi Tweets,

I have an azalea/rose bed in front of my picture window where my bird feeder is. There is a neighborhood cat who likes to bed down in the azalea bushes on occasion and I always assumed it was he who would dig up the mulch and get it all over my walkway. This weekend while watching the birds around the feeder I looked down where I had spread seed on the ground only to see a spotted towhee happily digging up my mulch with his feet, facing away from the walk so that when he scratched it went all over the place. That little turkey! Guess I can't blame the cat anymore. My husband says since I spread the seeds on the ground, it's now my job to sweep the walk when the towhees make a mess. :)

A bushtits have arrived in my neighborhood again and a flock of them has been coming to the suet this week. I've had a single golden crowned sparrow and two spotted towhees scratching in the mulch under the feeder and rose bush. Another sparrow came on Sunday that I couldn't figure out but it didn't stay long enough for me to get a good look or a picture. I remember it being a thinner bodied sparrow than the golden-crowned and it had grey and brown stripes on its head. I didn't get a look at the chest. The juncos at the feeder this week have been mostly males, not many females. I have only seen one Bewicks wren at the feeder so far this year but saw two of them in the rhodies at my neighbor's house across the street this morning. I don't think I've ever seen more than one at a time before.

An English sparrow pair is nesting in my nest box again. A pair had 3 clutches in that box in 2007 and 2 in 2008. Will see how many we get this year.

I saw a crow this morning with a broken leg or foot. I watched him till he moved so I could see if he could fly and he was able to do that OK so he may make it alright. This is the first time I've seen him but I'll keep an eye out for him. The last weather report I read is calling for some sun this weekend...yay!
