Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday August 19. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at
503-233-3976.

On August 15 a bright male ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK was at Fort Rock State
Park. The Detroit Flats MAGNOLIA WARBLER last seen July 30 may have been
seen there again on August 11.

On the August 14 offshore boat trips taken out of Newport and out of
Brookings found BLACK-FOOTED ALBATROSS, FULMARS, PINK-FOOTED SHEARWATERS,
RED-NECKED PHALAROPES, SABINE¹S GULLS, ARCTIC TERNS, and all three jaegers.
The trip out of Brookings also noted a BULLER¹S SHEARWATER and over 10,000
RED-NECKED PHALAROPES attracted to a feeding pod of whales just south of the
border in California.

The fall migration is getting more conspicuous. Shorebirds continue to
dominate reported sightings with an increase of BAIRD¹S SANDPIPERS during
the week. Migrant swallows and nighthawks are also increasing.

On August 15 an ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER was on the North Spit of Coos Bay. A
COMMON TERN was on the North Spit of Coos Bay and near the mouth of the
Umpqua River August 13. An adult and a juvenile MEW GULL were at Yaquina Bay
August 15.

On August 14 a SANDERLING was at the mouth of Hood River. The next day one
was at Prineville Reservoir south of Prineville.

That¹s it for this week.
