Tweeters,
Made a quick run through Ft. Lewis near noon today looking for early
returning swallows (none) and WESTERN BLUEBIRDS. Found five of the latter (3
males, 2 females) at the intersection of 2nd Division Range Road and Story
Road - on the Nisqually Lake side of the intersection. Saw about 10
Yellow-rumped Warblers in the same area.
Continued on to the Muck Creek Bridge, and found a nice surprise at Range 81
(near the bridge): 8 WESTERN MEADOWLARKS. At least two of them were
singing. A couple of WESTERN SCRUB-JAYS were at the bridge, along with two
Steller's Jays and an immature and an adult Bald Eagle. Could be the same
pair of Western Scrub-jays that nested near the bridge last year (?).
May all your birds be identified,
Denis DeSilvis
