hello everyone,
today's mystery bird might be a bit of a challenge. The bird was
photographed in a park in Blacksburg, Virginia by a reader of mine;

this morning, I shared a video of professor Tim Birkhead discussing
some of the many lessons we've learned about promiscuity, evolution
and ourselves as the result of looking closely at birds. Dr Birkhead
is a professor of behavior and evolution at the University of
Sheffield, and he has won several teaching awards. This video is a
treat; humorous, insightful and educational.

I also have published an interesting opinion piece by Henry Gee, one
of the senior editors at NATURE. In this essay, he tells us that we
haven't discovered, dissected and described every living thing, that
there are still large animals roaming around that we haven't stumbled
across yet, and what this means for all of us;
