[Tweeters] Eared Grebe at Tramp Harbor

I went to Vashon this morning, using a search for the Yellow-billed Loon as an excuse to go somewhere I rarely go. I did a careful search for over two hours from KVI Beach to Maury Island. I saw all three expected loons but no YBLO. The highlight of the morning was an EARED GREBE that kept tagging along but staying separate from the Horned Grebes. It was slightly smaller than the Horned Grebes. The peaked crown, more slender neck, and slightly upturned bill were all striking. It also appeared to sit higher on the water, as do Eared Grebes. If the CBC did not tick this bird on Sunday, it should still count as a count week bird and I'd be happy to write it up if needed. The right person will have to contact me.

The other good bird of the day was a WHITE-THROATED SPARROW (white striped) in a friend's yard here in Edmonds.

Good Birding to All,

Carol Riddell
