Hi Tweets,

Two last days of vacation so Bruce LaBar and I toured around Pierce County looking for interesting winter birds in the New Year. All,of these birds are posted in eBird if you need a map. Just use the Explore Location option and type in Pierce, WA to see the sightings and the whole checklist and map option.

Point Brown: Long-tailed Duck 1st year male and Harris Sparrow about 6 blocks away at a feeder visible from the front gate.

Gog-le-hi-te wetlands on the tide flats: Slaty-backed Gull, along with Western, Herring, Thayers and hybrids.

Camp Murray boat access on American Lake: Canvasbacks

Chambers Bay Central Meadow Pond (bottom of the hill near the parking area): Redhead

Oakbrook Golf and Country Club in Lakewood: Acorn Woodpecker, along with 2 Pileateds by the 11th tee on Sapphire Road (don't walk on the course, seeable from the road. Also of note, were Varied Thrush and 2 Greater White-fronted Geese with a flock of 25 Canada's feeding on the course.

Highway 162 by Alderton (also check Van Ogle Ford Road) were 3 Tundra Swans mixed in with Trumpeters and Cackling Geese.

Good Birding in the New Year!
