Retraction... sorry.. my Hummers do NOT nest in Salmonberry bushes.. but rather Fireweed that grows thick amongst the Salal..
Temp. insanity.. I blame it on the bright sun.

Subject: [Tweeters] The Warm Winter

I have been birding on my property most of today. One thing is for sure, the birds are twitter-patted and looking for nesting materials. The sounds from the familiar birds are all different as they sing their songs of courtship. I cant help but watch them and feel bad for them this Spring. It is warm and they are ready.. however, many of their nesting spots are dependent on the amount of light during the day to tell them when to sprout leaves. Leaving many birds I'm sure, competing for space in hidden cover. My pair of Hummers always nest in a little grove of Salmon Berry bushes.. however, they are only stalks and bare yet. They seem almost confused as they sit perched on my cherry tree, which has yet to produce a leaf, like ornaments on a naked tree.

While everyone is excited for their firsts to return to their yard, I have one as well.. yep. A dandelion in all is glory.. It may not be a bird, but it's the first I've seen this year.. a sure sign that mowing season will be early as well. I'm betting lots of critters were excited to see it as well.

Happy Sunshiny day Birding...
