The Audubon’s Vaux’s Happening project concluded its Vaux’s Swift southbound 2015 border to border migration monitoring five days ago.

121 volunteers turned in 499 observation reports from 44 different roost sites, documenting 1,049,750 swifts going to roost.

Apparently the wee birds hustled down to central California and hung out there for an extended length of time. Rio Lindo had an all time high one evening count of 41,040 and the McNear Brickyard was closing in on a 400,000 migration total.

Here are the totals for the Washington State big four roost sites for the last two southbound migrations.

2014 2015
Old Northern State 123,460 23,478
Monroe Wagner 116,544 99,508
Selleck 12,344 79,533
JBLM 43,457 132,760

Additional info is on our website. http://www.vauxhappening.org <http://www.vauxhappening.org/>

The inside Monroe Wagner chimney cam is still live streaming where you can see a bunch of nice bricks 24/7.
So is the Detroit Chimney Swift camera which has even more bricks.

There’s a North Cascades Audubon/Vaux’s Happening PowerPoint presentation in Bellingham Tuesday at 7:00.

See you there.
