I made the long drive over to Othello for the Scissor-tailed Flycatcher. I
got to the area about 1:00 PM and cruised the target area along SR 24
checking every Western Kingbird and Eastern Kingbird on the power lines
without finding the bird. After turning around and starting back eastward
I noticed a car stopped about a quarter mile east of me. They were on the
bird which had flown in right behind me. I watched it for 10 minutes or so
and got a few photos before it flew across SR 24 to the south and landed
about 300 yards south of the highway on another set of power lines which
run north-south perpendicular to SR 24. After a few minutes it flew again
farther south and out of sight. I had planned to try for the bird tomorrow
but after checking the weather forecast this morning, which called for high
winds and blowing dust, I decided on the spur of the moment to go today. I
am glad I did-great bird for Washington. I put a photo in the ebird
checklist for today.
