I think I saw a juvenile Harris's Hawk at Canyon Park near where I work. It
has all dark body, rufous leg, chestnut patch on the forefront of the wings
against creamy background with black wing tips, narrow white tail band,
long tail. When I first saw it, it was flying. The chestnut patch caught my
attention. Later it landed on top of a very tall bare tree far away from
the road and then took off. Anyone who could try again to locate it to
confirm this would be nice. I saw it at about 1:00pm today.
Take I-405 exit at highway 527, go north, take right at first light at
220th St SE, go all the way to a T-junction, turn left at 26th Pl. SE to go
up hill. About few hundred feet you will see a large snag about 2ft in
diameter with a sign on it "ANIT Lab". Look behind it towards north. The
bird was on the top of the tallest bare tree far behind all the evergreens.
The best parking is at the T-junction to your left at an office building,
then walk uphill.
Hope you find it,
