Yesterday 35 of us enjoyed a nice walk at Nisqually. It didn't seem
particularly birdy, but the weather was dry without much breeze and it got
getter as the day went on. We had an 11.4 high tide at 10:58 so there was
lots of water out by the estuary boardwalk.

Waterfowl numbers are way down even though the water levels are way up.
Song birds were surprisingly quiet at the start of the walk but they got
more vocal as the day warmed up a bit.

We had a PIED-BILLED GREBE at the visitor center pond at the start along
with a couple of RING-NECKED DUCKS and a couple of CANADA GEESE but not
much else there.

We did spot the lingering RED-SHOULDERED HAWK in the trees overhanging the
old McAllister Creek trail and the mother GREAT HORNED OWL continues to sit
in the nest tree. No young were visible but there was an unsubstantiated
report of the young being seen Sunday.

For the day I had 47 species with VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS being new for the
year, giving me 82 species for the year.

I didn't see any mammals, which is unusual.

Until next week....
