Tweeters,

Twenty of us walked JBLM Eagles Pride GC on a mostly sunny day (for a
change!), but with a cool temp to start (34degF), with warming (53degF)
toward the end of the route. We were going to walk the "usual" route, but by
the time we got to the maintenance road next to the pond by the 12th green,
we found that about 40 feet of the road was under 1+ foot of water,
precluding all but one of us from wading through it. We hiked around the
other side of the pond, but about three-fourths of the way around that side,
we were again blocked by high water. We backtracked and climbed a hill to
the 7th tee box (a first for us), and did manage to score a SHARP-SHINNED
HAWK, which we likely wouldn't have gotten otherwise. The waters of Hodge
Lake were higher than we've ever seen, to the extent of overflowing to the
marshland to the NE. Interestingly, we found four COMMON GOLDENEYE, three
HOODED MERGANSER, two RING-NECKED DUCK, and a PIED-BILLED GREBE in the
flooded marshland. High overhead, we got a DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT at this
lake. A pair of WOOD DUCK flying over a heavily wooded area and three
singing ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS were a treat. Count for today was 35 species
plus two taxa (gull sp., and American/Northwestern Crow.)

The JBLM Eagles Pride GC birders meet the third Thursday of each month at
8:00AM. Starting point is Bldg # 1514, Driving Range Tee, Eagles Pride Golf
Course, I-5 Exit 116, Mounts Road Exit. Upcoming walks include the
following:

. April 21

. May 19

. June 16

Anyone is welcome to join us!
