Hello again,

And just now, the next day after seeing the first tanagers of the year, I’ve had my FOY Rufous Hummingbird at my feeder, a female. I know others have been seeing them for a while, and I was afraid my yard had dropped off their must-visit list, but better late than never!

Subject: [Tweeters] Tanagers, warblers, thrush in West Seattle

Hi Tweets,

Had a quick Western Tanager flythrough yesterday. The honeymooning couple stopped for about two minutes on the young cedar outside my kitchen window—just long enough for me to go get my camera and miss seeing their departure by seconds.

The Wilson’s Warblers are chittering up a storm in my shrubs, and I’ve been hearing a lovely Swainson’s Thrush from deeper in the woods. There’s a crow nest at eye level from my deck, with parents flying in and out frequently during the day. The returning adults’ beak movements make it look like hatchlings are getting fed, but I haven’t yet seen any fuzzy little heads poking up above the nest rim. I’ve often seen three crows in the vicinity of the nest, and am guessing that one may be a helper for this pair; have others seen this?

Good birding to all,
