I watched the American Tree Sparrow this morning around 10 o’clock. I was the only car in the parking lot and the only birder out on the island. It is showing remarkable site fidelity. If you are not familiar with the area, and want to see this sparrow, the parking area is at the Everett Water Treatment Plant, just beyond Langus Riverfront Park. This is a known break-in area and there is broken safety glass in the parking lot. Do not leave anything of value, particularly optics, in your car. You don’t need a scope with you to see this sparrow and it is just not worth the risk of leaving it in your car. leave it at home. Walk east on the gravel road and cross the foot bridge onto Spencer Island. Immediately turn right and follow the gravel road south. You will go by at least one boardwalk viewing platform on your left. Shortly after that turn left onto the gravel path of the cross dike. Walk slowly and watch for this lone sparrow feeding on the path. If you haven’t already seen photos of it, two of mine are here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/14908898@N08/? . The bird appears relatively undisturbed by people, but please keep your distance, enjoy it with your binoculars and long-lensed camera so that others will also be able to see it. Thanks to the original poster, Tiffany Linbo, for sharing this great find.
