Although the weather has warmed up considerably and most of the ponds are now open, several still have a glaze of ice, keeping the water birds away. And the grassy meadows were still pretty crunchy with frost this morning. But, with the sun partially visible and the mild temperatures, lots of walkers were out this morning. And the work crews added their noise, removing old logs that served as parking lot barriers as well as re-doing some of the drainages. Busy place. Which was maybe why the resident beaver was out in the open, in the Dead-end Pond, having a twig snack: https://youtu.be/Amb07tqNR6Y <https://youtu.be/Amb07tqNR6Y>. It is rare to see the beavers here during daylight hours. And, busy with birds as well.

Cackling Goose - one bird with the Canada flock; sort of. They kept harassing it, keeping it to the fringe. We rarely get Cacklers in the park so this was nice to see.
Eurasian Wigeon - one was calling early with the large AMWI flock in the wet west meadow
Scaup - the Greater Scaup flock seems like it grows every week; I counted 260 birds this morning; only a couple dozen Lesser
Cooper’s Hawk - an adult male was perched in the wetlands and another bird was calling not far away
Bald Eagle - an adult and an immature, the latter making a low altitude pass over the shoreline, scattering ducks every which way
Wilson’s Snipe - a couple calling from the meadows
Barn Owl - a couple hunting the meadow early; one was heading north with prey
Red-breasted Sapsucker - in its roost Spruce
Bohemian Waxwing - a couple were hanging out with a large Robin flock, high in the cottonwoods, but not doing any berry feeding
Yellow-rumped Warbler (Audubon’s) - a few, some feeding on the cobble beach by the swim area
Pine Siskin - couple dozen; first of winter

For the day, 55 species; with CACG and PISI new, 66 species for the year.
