We started birding yesterday, by looking for the Rosario Head Yellow billed
Loon. When we arrived, several birders were already looking for it. One
birder had successfully located it north of Rosario Head, between the
larger island and the mainland. For best viewing, a scope would be
recommended. It was busy preening and wing flapping. The Rock Sandpiper was
not located while we were there, but three Surfbirds did show up on the
rocks below. Also seen there were Black Turnstones, Black Oystercatcher
and Harlequin Duck.
On the water we had Common Loon, Red-Throated Loon, Western Grebe, Surf
Scoter, a Pigeon Guillemot already in breeding plumage, Red-breasted
Merganser and more. An Eared Grebe off the end of the pier at Rosario Beach
was of interest.

Next stop was Washington Park in Anacortes. We drove the loop, mainly
looking for Alcids. We managed to find several Common Murres and a pair of
Marbled Murrelets. Otherwise the birding there was slow.

Good Birding!
