Today at Lake Fenwick Park (Kent) I counted 20 western tanagers actively moving about in the bigleaf maple trees near the pond (opposite side of the road from the lake). There appeared to be about an equal number of females as there were males. The birds were pretty tame, and gave great looks on numerous occasions. Quite a sight, probably the largest group of western tanagers that I have ever seen at one time. There were also a few warblers (Townsend's, Wilson's, and common yellowthroat), as well as a red-eyed vireo, which stopped long enough to give me a great look at it's red eye and dark eye stripe.
