[Tweeters] First bird of 2019

It's cold and still this morning in Port Townsend, but still it seemed odd when I scanned the entire neighborhood from upstairs and could not see a single bird. Then it flew into view, a thrillingly large Red-tailed Hawk, hunting. Not my first yard bird sighting of one, but certainly the closest to the house one has ever been. No wonder everything was quiet out there!

Yesterday, I treated myself to a birthday birding cruise aboard the local whale-watching tour boat. It was a beautiful sunny, cold day - the mountains were out, snowy, spectacular and glowing with winter light, the water was calm, and the boat was fully of happy birders and photographers. I had two life species - the transient orca pod T46, and two Ancient Murrelets. A great end to 2018!

Happy New Year everyone!
