Hello civic-minded students and faculty of fellow Tacoma colleges!

A coalition of University of Puget Sound students and faculty will host a
massive Tacoma community protest of the Military Commissions Act this
Wednesday (Nov. 1) at 12pm outside the Student Union Building on the
University of Puget Sound Campus. Your attendance is sorrowly needed!

We will stage a Funeral for Habeas Corpus, complete with a procession,
eulogies, music, and much more. Information tables will help to educate,
cell phone tables will be available for people to call their
representatives, and an open mic time will be provided where attendees may
speak openly about issues concerning the bill.

Our hope in contacting you is that some of your students, members, student
groups, and you yourselves will make it over to help us raise awareness of
and take action against this bill. We are sorry for this late notice, but
have been working very hard to make sure that the protest will go off as
planned. We are asking your help in spreading the word about this event!

Local press has been invited, as have local government representatives. As
of right now, Maria Cantwell has personally told us that she plans to
attend!

I have attached the press release for the event, which explains the details
of the bill and of the protest. We will be putting up posters at UPS and
around North Tacoma tomorrow and Tuesday. Please feel to make up posters
advertising your groups' participation and calling for others to attend.
Please also spread this email. The notice is short, but the importance is
huge.
